All Classes: Turnitin.com and Formatting

February 17, 2009 Mrs. Olson 2 comments

I have received many an email about turnitin.com and essay formatting.

When turnitin.com shows you your essay so that you can double check if you submitted the correct essay, it just shows you the text without formatting.  As long as you uploaded the paper, I will see the correct formatting when I download your paper.  (The only exception is when you copy and paste a paper; if you do that, I’ll be able to tell that you did.)

I hope that clarifies some of your concerns.  Please do email me if you have any questions.

Below you will find directions for uploading a paper on turnitin.com.

Remember, there’s a practice section for you to try out before you submit your first paper.  I’m happy to help, too: stop by during office hours or schedule an appointment.

201 Students

Anytime this week, turn in your homework folders to my office. If I’m not there, just slide your folders under the door. DO NOT submit them to my mailbox under any circumstances.

201 students, include these items in an obvious place with your name, the date, and a label:

  • Unit III – Revision and Editing activities (see 13 November PowerPoint)
  • Unit IV – Pre-Writing, Conversation Bubbles (see 18 November PowerPoint)
  • Unit IV – Pre-Writing, Planning with Charts (see 25 November PowerPoint)
  • Unit IV – Writing, Crafting Summaries (see 2 December)
  • Unit IV – Peer Review/Revision and Editing Drafts (see 4 December PowerPoint)
  • Include labeled Unit V drafts for extra credit (you earn the credit; in other words, a demonstration of excellent work will get you the credit).

Also, 201 students, the final draft of your paper five is due to turnitin.com by midnight on Friday, December 19.  Also, I’ll be in my office Monday through Thursday from 10:00 to 1:00.

As promised, here are a few different example prospectus essays.  All are in .pdf format.

  • Example #1

The essays also include my comments.  I though that seeing how I grade the projects might be useful.
