I can’t be in my office this afternoon – I have a series of meetings to attend; I will, however, be on Meebo throughout the day, so you can catch me there.
101 students, see the next post for some help with your first projects!
201 students, some of you requested stronger prospectus examples. I’ve posted three more on the Documents page (under the Unit I documents, naturally).

I was so pleased with our discussion in class today (even the juvenile parts)! You all did a fantastic job working through a very difficult short story. Since that took up the majority of our class time, I’ve had to make some scheduling accomodations. Click “read more” for the details or to watch some related videos.

The Missoulian reports that a 4-day work week might be in store for University of Montana students and faculty do to budget constraints:
The possibility of a four-day work week stirred commotion – and emotion – on the University of Montana campus Tuesday, one day after President George Dennison announced ways the university may respond to predicted shortfalls in state and federal revenue.
There’s considerable concern among faculty about the shortened work week, but it’s not universal, said Doug Coffin, vice president of the University Faculty Association, who termed the proposals “Draconian.”
“The fat is gone,” said Coffin, a professor of molecular genetics. “We’re down to where we are concerned we’re starting to hurt the quality of the university.”
Dennison emphasized Tuesday that a four-day work week would involve longer days and that no one’s pay would be reduced as a result of the shorter week.
The proposal suggests lopping Monday off the work week; faculty and students would teach and attend class Tuesday through Thursday on ten-hour long days. Administrators hope to save money on utility costs (and thus rescue strained budgets).
What do you think? Would a 4-day academic week be helpful?
