All Classes: Many Apologies, Folks, But I Can’t Be in the Office Today

Car troubles will keep me from the office today.

Barring anymore surprises, I will be in Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 1:00.  I’ll try to keep Meebo open, and I will be checking my email throughout the afternoon.

M/W/F Students: For the Last Day o’Class

Bring all of your drafts from this unit to class, I’ll collect one for a homework grade.

Complete the short writing assignment about your re-writing processes.

Throughout the semester, I have devoted a large amount of class time to re-writing.  We’ve talked about common grammar errors, and we’ve discussed different activities that might help you prepare a final draft.  Those goal was to make you a more confident editor of your own prose.

In about 5-7 pars., respond to the following questions: (1) What, perennially, have been the “problem” areas in your drafts?  (2) Why do you think that these are the areas that are problematic? (3) What are two specific things you can do in the future to revise and edit these problems from your writing?

Tues./Thurs. Section: For Our Last Day of Class

Be sure that you bring a fresh draft of your final project to class.

Also, don’t forget to complete the short writing assignment about your writing process.  Click “read the rest of the entry” if you didn’t get the assignment in your notes.

All Classes: Want to Do Better Next Time Around?

As the semester winds down, I’ve had a lot of conversations with a number of you about how to do better in future classes.  I think that idea of an autopilot schedule is one that, if you incorporate it into your college-student lifestyle, will help you achieve better grades with less stress.  Essentially, you discipline yourself so that you are focused more on your work and less on when to do your work.

Here’s the first part of the series:

This is the first post in a new four-part series I’m calling 4 Weeks to a 4.0. Each Monday, for the next month, I’ll be posting a new weekly assignment. I can’t guarantee that you’ll immediately earn a 4.0 if you finish all four assignments, but your grades will definitely improve and your stress will definitely plummet. If you want to overhaul your study habits, but feel overwhelmed by all the changes this requires, then this series is for you. Your first assignment, presented below, covers some scheduling basics.

Also, since it’s the end of the semester, and we’re all out of time, this section about time management from the same website might be useful.

All Classes: Writing About Medical Ethics?

Quite a few of you are writing projects that deal with medical ethics in different ways.  I thought that this article might be interesting to you folks:

A controversial fertility doctor claimed yesterday to have cloned 14 human embryos and transferred 11 of them into the wombs of four women who had been prepared to give birth to cloned babies.

The cloning was recorded by an independent documentary film-maker who has testified to The Independent that the cloning had taken place and that the women were genuinely hoping to become pregnant with the first cloned embryos specifically created for the purposes of human reproduction.

The skeptic in me says that this “news story” is a publicity stunt for a documentary.
